Jared Allen got the boot, are you over it?

I see the Vikings will be scrimmaging against KC up north as both teams move into phase II of training camp.  The “lead” story will undoubtedly center around Jared Allen.  Allen, was traded by KC to the Vikings for some draft picks.  Fortunately, that whole situation didn’t turn into a Brett Favre mess.  KC was willing to work with the Vikes.

I read an article that the local paper did concerning Allen.  The guy got what he wanted and KC got what they needed.  Allen admitted that both sides got what they wanted.  Thus, he seems to have a chip on his shoulders.  It should be noted that the chip is against Carl Peterson and the rest of the front office.

Well, I was never a big fan of the one-dimensional defensive end.  Allen was only good at jumping offside and sacking the quarterback.  He was rarely called for being offside because the league was glad to have someone who wasn’t black (and steroid-free) actually getting to the QB.  Jared was the first non-minority since the days of Mark Gastineau to tear up the sack numbers.  Oh, I guess you could count Kevin Greene if you wanted to, but he was a LB in some systems and he was a “user”, if you know what I mean.

I was recently in the Twin Cities and I got a chance to listen to the local sports radio shows.  Let me tell you, they are tickled purple to have Jared on their team.  What Allen needs to remember is that Carl Peterson actually did him a favor.  Sure, KC could have gotten anyone’s 1st rd pick for him.  They could have traded him to a losing team.  Allen has a belief that he is the missing link that will push the Vikings over the hump.  Uh, I don’t think so.  All the Vikes need is a quarterback.  Tavaris Jackson is the black version of Brody Croyle.  A non-winning type of player.

The local Minneapolis sports scene is giddy to have Allen there.  They are hoping that his addition will free up some of the other defenders.  Minnesota was really good last year.  They already had a solid defense.  Their running game is, well, they ran all over KC, but that isn’t saying much.  Adrian Peterson is the truth.  Their only knock is the passing game.  That’s why they covet Brett Favre.

Considering Allen got sent to a “contender”, should he be more thankful of Carl Peterson or should he remain “pissed” that he didn’t get his long term deal to stay here?

  • Aaron Schobel, Aaron Kampman, Patrick Kerney, Kyle Vanden Bosch. All white. All DEs that sack the QB. I also think we are entitled to half, or at least a quarter, of Jason Taylor’s sacks.
