The price of a gallon of gas in the U.S. has really gotten out of hand. I mean, it’s not even funny anymore. You remember when we hit the $2 per gallon mark? There were reports of mild weeping and gnashing of teeth. They didn’t last long and they really didn’t have much “bite” in areas where meth was king. Reason? A shortage of teeth to gnash.
Nonetheless, we failed to “show them” by continuing to fill up our big SUVs and we got used to paying this higher amount. Well, that was a bad move on our part. I know….what is the consumer to do, walk? I know we’re not walking. I know most folks don’t want to car pool because they hate the people in the car pool. People don’t like the bus system because it’s viewed as being “just for the minorities”.
That being said, the gas suits decided to keep their pedal on the metal. They bumped up to $2.50, then inched up to $2.75. Then the light bulb came on. Why not take these fools to $3.00 for a (ONE) gallon of gas? We’ll continue to complain and fill, right? Yep. They’ve got us down to a tee.
If you look at it, there was a shift in the conciousness of the American gas consumer. We know that hard times are here. Everyone can see that. Even criminals. They feel it first. You could tell, if you were watching, how they responded to the higher prices of gas. It started like this:
There were increases in “drive-offs”. You know…the guys who fill up and then bail before paying. That forced ALL gas stations to go away from the fill first, pay later plan. That should have died when Andy Griffith retired from being sheriff. There was no way Barney was going to be able to police that kind of rogue behavior….without shooting someone.
Once the pumps were locked down, the criminals decided to just go back to the tried and true methods of either stealing your purses/wallets (to get your credit/debit cards and cash). They also jacking more cars (with fuller tanks than their own) and holding up more convenience stores.
These are all trickle down effects of this high dollar gasoline.
Fret not. I have now decided to give you the good news. Your nation can help you. The U.S. can do more to help get these prices back to a comfortable range. Right now, all the profits are going to the big oil suits. You can’t blame them for raising the prices. If I was in their position, I would raise it too. Camels love water. That’s free.
What the elected officials in Washington D.C. need to do is to increase the U.S. production of gasoline. Either that or go towards an alternative fuel source. The suit at Shell Oil stated that we could send a message by doing more to increase production. Apparently, the president was talking something along that line the other day. Well, we know that their is a lot of untapped land up in Alaska that would go a long way to helping that out.
That is where the problem lies. You have the environmentalist people who are laying on the ground and hugging trees to ensure that no digs will compromise that virgin soil. On the other hand, you have some haters in the midwest who are tired of this push for using corn to help out with this biofuel. They state that the world hunger situation should take precedence over us using kernels for gas versus putting it in the bellies of some hungry soul. Slow your roll. The last I checked, corn comes out in the stool.
Should more be done to press to start digging in Alaska? To me, I don’t care. We need to do whatever needs to be done to get this gas back down. You will be hard pressed to get politicians who are really feeling the pain at the pump. Especially the ones in Washington. I don’t know all the perks, but I’m sure that the likelyhood that they are pulling into BP’s and Conoco’s are very doubtful. Aren’t most of them being shuttled around on the government’s dime?
Don’t let me get to Alaska. I’m bringing a shovel if I make it. That’s not a dig at the people there…it’s a dig at the oil.

Don’t stop in Alaska. It was just reported last week that North Dakota has billions of barrels of gas there as well. Both states I never plan on visiting, so tear them bitches up!

I agree, environmentalists are self-important pricks
